Frequently Asked Questions
The Lemosho Route is widely considered the most scenic Kilimanjaro route for three distinctive reasons — its remote and pristine western forest approach through the rarely visited Londorossi Forest, its extraordinary full Shira Plateau traverse delivering the most dramatic and most beautiful high-altitude plateau scenery on the entire mountain, and its longer overall duration which allows more time to appreciate and fully experience the mountain’s extraordinary variety of landscapes, ecosystems, and natural wonders. Climbers consistently describe the Lemosho as the most visually overwhelming and most completely satisfying Kilimanjaro experience available.
The Lemosho Route’s exceptional summit success rate is primarily the result of its 8-day duration — the longest standard route on the mountain — which provides significantly more acclimatization time than shorter routes. The route’s generous acclimatization profile — including the full Shira Plateau traverse, the Lava Tower high-altitude acclimatization day, and the additional rest day built into the 8-day schedule — allows climbers’ bodies to adapt more gradually and more completely to the extreme altitude of the summit zone dramatically increasing the probability of a successful summit attempt.
The Lemosho Route is one of our most strongly recommended routes for first-time Kilimanjaro climbers — its generous acclimatization profile, its outstanding scenery, and its consistently high success rates make it the most rewarding and most likely to result in a successful summit experience for guests attempting Kilimanjaro for the first time. The additional day compared to the Machame Route is a worthwhile investment for the significantly improved success probability it delivers.
Yes — the Lemosho Route’s remote Londorossi Forest approach passes through one of the most pristine and most biodiverse sections of Kilimanjaro’s forest zone where elephant, buffalo, colobus monkey, blue monkey, and an exceptional diversity of forest bird species are regularly encountered. These wildlife encounters — completely unique to the Lemosho approach — add an extraordinary and completely unexpected dimension to the Kilimanjaro experience that no other standard route can replicate.
